Bukittinggi — The Faculty of Education and Teacher Training (FTIK) at Sjech M. Djamil Djambek State Islamic University (UIN) Bukittinggi successfully hosted the 6th Bukittinggi International Conference on Education (BICED) in a hybrid format on October 1, 2025. With the theme “EduTech and Faith: Bridging Values with Global Education,” the conference explored the synergy between educational technology and spiritual values in addressing the challenges of modern education.
Dr. Junaidi, M.Pd., Dean of FTIK, emphasized that the conference theme steered discussions toward the critical need to integrate technology and faith in developing learners who are not only digitally adept but also morally and spiritually grounded. He underscored this integration as essential to cultivating a holistic, character-driven generation.
Moderated by Muflihatuz Zakiyah, M.Pd., a lecturer in FTIK’s English Education Program, the event featured prominent speakers from Indonesia and abroad. Dr. Urmee Chakma of Australia presented a paper on social justice and inclusion in digital education, while Dr. Amir Rizaan from Malaysia highlighted the importance of global student mobility in transforming higher education. Representing the host institution, Afrinaldi, Ph.D., addressed the fundamental need to integrate faith, psychology, and technology in today’s digital age.
Other notable contributions included Dr. Irwandi, lecturer and chief editor of the international journal Modality, who discussed prophetic leadership in tauhid-based education. Prof. (Adj) Yusuf Liu from China stressed the importance of maintaining a balance between traditional and digital learning to preserve core values and wisdom.
In a speech delivered by Vice Rector for Academic and Institutional Affairs Afrinaldi, Ph.D., on behalf of UIN Bukittinggi Rector Prof. Dr. Silfia Hanani, the university affirmed that educational technology plays a pivotal role in transforming the national education system. He also announced that the university is awaiting official approval from the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform for the establishment of a new Faculty of Science and Technology, aimed at strengthening academic and technological capacities.
The conference featured 36 interdisciplinary papers, all aligned with the overarching theme of EduTech and faith. The 6th BICED provided a dynamic platform for international dialogue, fostering collaboration toward a more sustainable and culturally rooted future in education.[international office uin-bkt].
